BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
Khaliya Top offers breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks such as Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot, and Nanda Devi. Located near the quaint town of Munsiyari in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, Khaliya Top is a popular trekking destination.
Nestled amidst the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas at an altitude of 2,250 meters, Munsiyari is often referred to as “Little Kashmir.” The name Munsiyari translates to “place with snow.” This picturesque town provides splendid views of the snow-clad peaks and is a haven for nature lovers. Munsiyari is a paradise for nature photographers and bird watchers.
Panchachuli, a group of five peaks, is the star attraction in Munsiyari. The region’s flora and fauna are equally captivating, with Rhododendrons, Pine, and Deodar trees, along with birds like Wagtails, Ravens, Falcons, Monals, Himalayan Griffons, and Serpent Eagles. The altitude jungles of Munsiyari are home to wildlife such as Leopards, Himalayan Bears, Foxes, and Musk Deer.

DAY WISE SCHEDULE:
Day 1: Arrival and Journey to Munsiyari
· 07:00 AM: Report at Kathgodam Railway Station.
· Transport: A dedicated vehicle will be arranged for the journey to Munsiyari. The drive generally takes 10-12 hours, depending on road conditions.
· Scenic Journey: Along the route, you’ll be treated to mesmerizing views of snow-capped mountain ranges, lush green forests, and cascading waterfalls, making you feel as if you’re traveling through paradise.
· Evening: Arrive in Munsiyari by evening. As you enter the town, you’ll be greeted by the stunning sight of the Panchachuli Mountain.
· Accommodation: Overnight stay at a hotel in Munsiyari.
· Meals included – Evening Tea and snacks, Dinner
Day 2: Acclimatization in Munsiyari
· Morning: After breakfast, embark on an orientation and acclimatization walk to the Nanda Devi Temple.
· Activity: This walk helps you adjust to the altitude while offering breathtaking views and a spiritual start to your trekking journey.
· Evening: Return to your accommodation for a restful night in Munsiyari.
· Meals included – Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Tea and snacks, Dinner
Day 3: Trek from Munsiyari to Bhujani (3220 meters)
· Morning: Enjoy a nourishing breakfast at your accommodation in Munsiyari.
· Trek Begins: Jeep Drive from Munsiyari to Khaliya Dwar (7 km) starting point of trek.
· Ascent: As you ascend, the landscape transforms into dense forests of Rhododendron, Pine, and Deodar trees. The trail is moderately challenging, with a mix of uphill sections and level paths.
· Flora and Fauna: Keep an eye out for the diverse flora and fauna, including vibrant bird species and occasional wildlife sightings.
· Midday Rest: Take breaks along the way to enjoy the scenery, hydrate, and refuel with snacks. The cool mountain air and the sounds of nature add to the tranquil experience.
· Arrival at Bhujani: By late afternoon, arrive at Bhujani, situated at an elevation of 3220 meters. The campsite offers stunning views and a peaceful environment.
· Evening: Spend the evening relaxing, sharing stories, and stargazing. Overnight stay in tents at the Bhujani campsite.
· Meals included – Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Evening Tea and snacks, Dinner
Day 4: Trek from Bhujani to Khaliya Top (3750 meters) and Back to Bhujani
· Early Morning: Wake up early to the crisp mountain air and have a quick, energizing breakfast. Pack your essentials for the day’s trek.
· Trek to Khaliya Top: Begin the ascent to Khaliya Top. The initial climb is steep and challenging, but the breathtaking views along the way are well worth the effort.
· Scenic Trail: As you trek higher, you’ll traverse through alpine meadows. The changing landscape and panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks keep you motivated.
· Reaching the Summit: Arrive at Khaliya Top, standing at 3750 meters. From this vantage point, you’ll witness awe-inspiring views of the Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot, and Nanda Devi peaks.
· Summit Rest: Take some time at the summit to relax, take photographs, and soak in the majestic scenery. Enjoy a packed lunch while marveling at the beauty of the Himalayas.
· Descent: After a rejuvenating break, begin your descent back to Bhujani. The downhill trek is easier but requires careful navigation to avoid slipping.Arrive back at the Bhujani campsite by late afternoon. Enjoy a well-deserved rest and a hearty meal.
· Evening: Reflect on the day’s achievements, share experiences with fellow trekkers, and enjoy another night under the stars. Overnight stay in tents at Bhujani.
· Meals included – Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Evening Tea and snacks, Dinner
Day 5: Trek from Bhujani to Munsiyari
· Morning: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the Bhujani campsite, energizing yourself for the trek back to Munsiyari.
· Trek Begins: Begin your descent from Bhujani, enjoying the crisp mountain air and the serene surroundings. The downhill journey allows you to take in the beauty of the landscape at a leisurely pace.
· Scenic Descent: As you trek, marvel at the diverse flora and fauna that you might have missed on the ascent. The forests of Rhododendron, Pine, and Deodar trees create a captivating environment.
· Midday Rest: Take periodic breaks to rest, hydrate, and enjoy your surroundings. Perhaps you’ll spot some of the local wildlife or hear the melodic calls of birds.
· Khaliya Dwar: Arrive at Khaliya Dwar, where the dedicated vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to Munsiyari.
· Afternoon: Enjoy the scenic drive back to Munsiyari, reflecting on the wonderful experiences and memories created during the trek.
· Arrival in Munsiyari: By afternoon, arrive back in Munsiyari. The familiar sight of the Panchachuli Mountain will welcome you back.
· Certificate Distribution: Participate in a ceremony where certificates will be awarded to all participants who successfully completed the trek.
· Recreation Activity: Engage in fun recreational activities, sharing stories and experiences with fellow trekkers.
· Overnight Stay: Enjoy a well-deserved rest at your accommodation in Munsiyari. Share your trekking stories with fellow adventurers and savor the accomplishments of your journey.
· Meals included – Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Evening Tea and snacks, Dinner
Day 6: Check-Out and Departure
· Early Morning: Wake up early and enjoy a final breakfast at your accommodation in Munsiyari. Savor the last moments of the serene mountain environment and the stunning views.
· Packing Up: After breakfast, pack your belongings and ensure that you have collected all your personal items. Make sure your bags are securely packed for the journey ahead.
· Check-Out: Complete the check-out process at the accommodation. Ensure that all formalities are taken care of, and any pending payments are settled.
· Farewell: Bid farewell to the beautiful town of Munsiyari and the new friends you’ve made during the trek. Reflect on the incredible experiences and memories that will stay with you.

Transport Information
Please note that YHAI provides transportation only for one side of the journey. However, YHAI will assist and guide you in managing transportation from Munsiyari to Haldwani or Kathgodam.
· Shared Taxi: Available in Munsiyari at a cost of Rs 1000/- per person(appx).
· Public Transport: Buses are available but need to be booked one day in advance. Availability depends on road conditions and bus schedules.
· Private Vehicle: You can book a 7- 8-seater vehicle for a group, which costs around Rs 10,000/- per vehicle(appx.).
· Helicopter: Heli services also available from Munsiyari to Haldwani. It cost around 3500/- per person and takes 30-40 minutes to reach Haldwani.
· Travel: Enjoy the scenic drive back and use this time to relax and absorb the picturesque landscapes one last time.

Who Can Participate?
This expedition is open to YHAI members who are 18 years and older and physically fit. Participants below 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants above 60 years will be allowed subject to approval from the Programme Coordinator or Authorized Persons in offline mode.
How to Reach the Base Camp:
By Train: Kathgodam Railway Station is the nearest railway station, well-connected by a network of trains from major destinations across India.
By Bus: Kathgodam is accessible via motorable roads from major destinations in Northern India and Uttarakhand State. From ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi, you can take a regular bus to Haldwani. From Haldwani, you can take a rickshaw to reach Kathgodam Railway Station (pickup point). For more information, you can visit: https://utconline.uk.gov.in/home.aspx
By Air: The closest airport is Pantnagar Airport, located 71 km from Kathgodam. It is connected with other cities through regular and frequent flights. International travelers can fly to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and then take a connecting flight to Pantnagar Airport. From Pantnagar, travelers can easily reach Kathgodam via bus or cab.

Food & Water Supplies: Participants will be served simple, nutritious vegetarian meals.

• Floaters/Flip Flops: For wearing around the camp.
• Socks: Multiple pairs, including woolen ones for warmth.
• Rain Gear: Raincoat and Poncho.
• Lighting: Torch (flashlight) with extra batteries.
• Food Storage: Lunchbox with spoon.
• Hydration: Water bottle.
• Warm Clothing: Woolen garments such as jackets, sweaters, cap, gloves, and extra pairs of socks.
• Sun Protection: Sun cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen cream.
• Skin Care: Moisturizer and lip balm.
• Personal Medical Kit: Essential medications and first aid supplies.
• Hygiene Items: Soap and towel.
• Tech Essentials: Camera and power bank.
• General Clothing: Appropriate clothing layers for various weather conditions. Weather will be around zero to five degrees at higher camps in evening and morning.

Travel to Base Camp: Expenses for travel to and from the base camp are not included.
Personal Gear: Items such as trekking shoes, personal clothing, and other gear are not provided.
Personal Expenses: Costs for items like laundry, phone calls, and any other personal expenses are not covered.
Insurance: Personal accident insurance or any other insurance except for the group insurance provided.
Additional Food and Beverages: Any food and beverages outside of the provided meals are not included.
Medical Expenses: Any medical expenses beyond first aid and basic assistance are not covered.
Tips and Gratuities: Tips for guides, porters, and camp staff are not included.

Objectives:
The main objective of the Munsiyari Khaliya Top trek organized by the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) Delhi State Branch is to provide participants with an opportunity to experience the natural beauty and diverse landscapes of the Munsiyari region in Uttarakhand. The trek aims to:
Explore the Himalayan Terrain: Trek through picturesque landscapes, dense forests, and meadows, offering stunning views of the snow-capped peaks of Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot, and Nanda Devi.
Promote Physical Fitness: Encourage physical activity and help participants improve their stamina and endurance.
Foster Environmental Awareness: Raise awareness about the importance of preserving the natural environment and promoting sustainable trekking practices.
Cultural Immersion: Interact with local communities, learn about their culture, and understand their way of life.
Skill Development: Develop essential trekking skills, wilderness survival, camping, and first aid.
Connect with Nature: Offer an immersive experience in the untouched beauty of the Himalayas, allowing participants to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature.

SAFETY & SECURITY: Trained and expert camp leaders will be available to provide guidance throughout the trek. Medicines and first aid/basic medical assistance will be available in the camp. While every precaution has been taken to ensure safety of participants, The Youth Hostels Association of India, Delhi State Branch will not be responsible for any accidents, illness and any such unforeseen circumstances.
SPECIAL CASUAL LEAVE: The trekking expedition organized by the Youth Hostels Association of India is approved by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel and Training), Government of India, as per Office Order No. 28016/3/89Estt (A), dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in Central Government organizations can apply to the concerned authorities to avail special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office for up to 30 days in a calendar year.
Certificates: Participants who successfully complete the trek and adhere to the program’s discipline will be awarded certificates in recognition of their accomplishment.
Additional Notes
Prohibited Substances: Smoking, and the use of alcohol or narcotics in any form is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.
Route Adherence: Participants must adhere to the designated route of the program. Any deviation is not permitted. Participants wishing to join other activities may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after completing the program and checking out.
Accommodation: Staying outside the designated YHAI Camps is not allowed for the entire duration of the trek.
Environmental Responsibility: This is an environment-friendly trek. Do not litter or spoil the trail in any way. If you come across any litter, such as wrappers or plastic bags left by previous trekkers, please carry them with you and deposit them at the next camp.
Campfire Rules: Burning of wood during campfires is strictly prohibited to prevent deforestation and environmental damage
Medical Certificate: A medical certificate is compulsory and must be submitted at the time of reporting for the trek.
Documents required at the time of reporting: 1) Admit Card, 2) YHAI Membership Card, 3) Two Passport Photograph, 4) Medical Certificate (Compulsory)
Cancellation
CANCELLATION POLICY
1. Cancellation by the participants: In case you are unable to join the trek, you will receive a 50% refund of the program fee, which amounts to Rs 4750/-, provided that your cancellation request is received on or before 25 April 2025. Any cancellation requests received after this date will not be considered for a refund.
2. Cancellation by the organization: In case the cancellation due to natural calamity, government restrictions, cancellation of permissions, or any other unforeseen circumstances, YHAI will be accountable only for the program fees. Other expenses incurred by participants for joining the program will not be covered. In such situations, the decision regarding the refund of participation fees will be made by YHAI and will be final and binding on all participants.
