Breif Description Of The Program : After successful completion of Eight trekking expedition programmes in Munnar & Schenduruni YHAI Kerala state branch gives another opportunity to explore the “Explore Cochin” (Muzries – Athriappally – Vazhachal – Cochin Heritage & Jungle Safari).
 
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Reporting at Base VIKAS Centre, Kottappuram on the banks of the River Periyar is located about 2 km from Kodungallur Town, (Near Kottappuram Boat Jetty) in Trissur District Kerala. 5 PM Orientation and Acclimatization / Training. Camp at Vikas Centre Dormitory. Kottappuram Kodungallur
Day 2 : Experience the secrets of “Muziris” & Heritage Study
The story of Muziris starts from early 3000 BC when Babylonians, Assyrians and Egyptians came to the Malabar Coast in search for the spices. Later these Middle-East groups were joined by Arabs and Phoenicians. And gradually Muziris in Kodungallur entered into the cartography of World trade map. Then onwards Muziris holds the key to a good chunk of Kerala’s ancient history now the ancient trade route. The Muziris Heritage Project is one of the biggest conservation projects in India, where the state and the central governments have come together to conserve a rich culture that is as old as 3000 years or more. ( 9.30 AM to 5.00 PM Journey by BOAT through Periyar Rivar. Vist Chendamangalam Synagogue, Paravur Synagogue, Manjumatha Church , Pallipuram Fort Paliam Kovilakam etc.)

Day 3 : Experience the secrets of “Jungle Safari”& Nature Study
Full day Jungle Safari (By Bus) covering a total of 80 Kms ( Chalakkudy – Thuboormuzhy- Athirappally water falls – Vazhachal water falls )

The route passes through the semi-evergreen and evergreen forest of the sanctuary and can see the famous “Butterflies and medicinal plants” in a large area in its natural habitat. Altitudinal variations up to 1000 meters will be covered and travelers may encounter wide variety of wildlife and an enchanting view of the beautiful streams and small waterfalls.
Athirappilly Falls is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala, on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar ranges, this 24-metre (80 ft) waterfall.
Vazhachal Falls is situated in Athirappilly Panchayath of Thrissur district in Kerala on the southwest coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and at the edge of the Sholayar ranges, it is just 5 km from entrance of Athirappilly Falls.
There is a construction of a weir at Thumboormuzhi across the Chalakudy river and diverting the water for Irrigation purpose.
Day 4 : Sight Seeing “Cochin” Visit Mattancheri- the Heritage Center
The Mattancherry Palace is a Portuguese palace popularly known as the Dutch Palace Mattancherry Paradesi Synagogue, St. Francis CSI Church, in Fort Kochi, originally built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India Marine Drive Jew Street and Dutch Cemetery and Fort Kochi Beach

Who can Participate: Any YHAI member above the age of 15 years can participate on first cum first serve basis.
 
How To Reach The Base Camp :
The reporting place for the programme is at “Vikas Centre Kottappuram Kodungalluron the banks of the River Periyar is located about 2 km from Kodungallur Twon in Trissur District Kerala. Nearest Air Port. Cochin , Railway Station Aluva (30 Kms) , Trissur (50 KMs) Ernakulam (60 Kms)
By Air : The nearest airport is Cochin International airport 25 Kms.
By Train : The nearest railhead is Aluva / Trissur Junction which is connected to with Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hydarabad, Ahammedabad, Baroda, Bhopal, Howrah and Guwahathi etc.
By Road : Motorbale roads connect Kottappuram from Trissur (45 Kms) , North Paravur (15 Kms) and Aluva (30 Kms) Ernakulam Boat Jutty Bustand (40 Kms)
 
Accommodation Facilities : Dormitory with pacca bathroom and Toilet
Food & Water Supplies : Simple Vegetarian Food and safe Drinking Water
 
What participants should bring along : Rucksack, Pants / Jeans, , Torch with extra batteries, Soap, Towel, Mug, Lunch Box, Glass, Water Bottle, Plate, Spoon, and Camera (Optional)
Climate : This area receives both south-west and north-east monsoon rains. 75% of the precipitation occurs during the South-west monsoon from May to mid September
 
Safety & Security : Our field volunteers and camp leaders have been visited the area and check the details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities

Additional Notes : Use of alcohol and narcotics of any description and smoking are strictly prohibited during the programme. Deviation from the set rout of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the programme and check out.
 
Cancellation Policy : In case you are unable to join the programme after paying participation fee, you will get Rs 4000/-as refund provided your request is received at least 10 days in advance from the date of your reporting. No refund will, however, be admissible if such notice is short of 10 days.
