Breif Description Of The Program : Dooars is the gateway to the hill stations of North Bengal and Bhutan. Famous for its tea gardens, forests and the River Teesta, it is ideal for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The region is known for its wildlife sanctuaries where one can spot herds of deer, one-horned rhinos, elephants, guars and reptiles. The bird population here is an ornithologist’s delight. An added attraction is the Tiger reserve. White water rafting, trekking and jungle safaris are must dos.
Dooars is an amalgamation of Sprawling Jungle, crisscrossing fast flowing river or springs dotted intermittently with lush green tea garden , where several endangered tribes still maintain their ethnic life style. Animals like spotted deer or elephant often crossed the metal road, and sky is outlined with mount Kanchenjungha and others high snowcapped peak .It’s certainly a experience of a life time to cherish.
Dooars Jungle camp programme is dedicated to provide a enthralling experience of nature to the hostellers, among the six National park in west Bengal we will visit three i.e. Garumara National Park, Buxa tiger reserve& National Park , and Neora valley national park in depth and in between we also touch Jaldapara national park periphery during the journey.
 
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1 : Reporting at SILIGURI Dabgram Youth Hostel , Near Siliguri Mahila Maha Vidyalay,P.O-Rabindra Sarani,Siliguri,Pin-734406 after 3pm
Day 2 : After Breakfast team will start towards Lataguri via Gajoldoba. Gajoldoba, a picturesque tourist destination on the Teesta Barrage fully surrounded by Baikunthapur Forest and is only 25 kms from Siliguri, The region is ideal for nature tourist specially bird lovers. The water which assembled for irrigational purposes form a vast water land which we will visit before reaching out destination Lataguri @ kadambini Jungle Resort(Licensee Youth Hostel) before lunch around 1-30 pm. here we will stay in the periphery of Garumara National park. Lataguri is a small town located on the hilly terrains of the Dooars. Lying in close vicinity to some of the popular tourist attractions like Gorumara National Park and Chapmari Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s a great place to witness the beauty of Mother Nature. At 3pm we will start our jungle safari to reach watch tower. Here possibility of seeing Indian one horned rhinoceros, Indian gaur, several deer herds and different birds is great. At the end of safari we will enjoy local tribal dance along with tea. In between we can ride bullock cart to experience the beauty of rural life.
Day 3 : After breakfast team start around 9 30am for 7 points covering :

1. Murti : A river plane dotted with small stones, thin water source inside lush green forest

2. Jhalong : a small village situated on the banks of river Jaldhaka, near India-Bhutan border in the Kalimpong district in West Bengal.

3. Bindu : a Hydro electric project on jaldhaka a serene place to enjoy nature. Kingfisher, rown Dipper, Redstart, Laughing Thrush and some Water Fouls can be seen here. Many of these hill birds cannot be seen in the any other place.

4. Paren : where we can visit green lofty hills and alpine forest. Location is tranquil and pictresque

5. Samsing : situated in the eastern fringe of Neora valley national Park are dotted with tea garden and spring a ideal place for photography and nature watch

6. Sultaney khola : the words stands for Orange river situated in the the neora valley national park. Area is dotted with orange garden and dense evergreen forest at an elevation of 950 to 1000 mt. suntaley khola is flowing through it

7. Rocky island : A small hamlet 3km down the Samsing, where river Murti is flowing through huge marbel of different hues, a perfect place to enjoy river

Day 4 : After Breakfast team will start at 10am Towards Jayanti resort on the way we will cross jaldapara national park and Buxa tiger reserve. We can visit Nature interpretation centre at Buxa forest. Jayanti is a small village located along the jayanti river in the fringe of Buxa national park and tiger reserve a natural devider between jayantia hillsand Bhutan hills. In the afternoon after lunch we will visit Pukhri lake means pond on the hill in nepali language by a small easy trek of less than 2km. The local people consider Pokhri Lake as a holy and sacred place. They don’t even touch the lake water with their feet. On every Buddha Purnima, they go to the place and worship the Pokhri, which also causes a huge crowd of tourists at that time. Surrounded by green forested areas, vibrant with the sweet chirpings of unknown birds and unimaginable music of the trees leaves flowing the area is woth visitiong in any season .The lake is full of big-sized Catfish (Magur and Singi) and Turtle, which are considered another reason to attract the tourists, they love to feed the fishes with puffed rice. You can witness mesmerizing sunset at jayanti river plane in the evening. An ideal place for star gazing at night.
Day 5 : After breakfast visit Buxa fort by a small uphill trekking (2km one side). Buxa Fort is located at an altitude of 867meters (2,844ft) in the Buxa Tiger Reserve. The Bhutan King used the fort to protect the portion connecting Tibet with India, via Bhutan. This fort was used as prison by the British. Many freedom fighters were imprisoned here during the British Rule some of them later transfer to anadam Cellular jail. After Independence the Fort is served as a refugee camp for Tibetans and Bangladeshis. It is thrill to visit here and experience the all those stuffs especially for the novice trekkers. Buxa fort is the main trekking point towards lots of areas. To visit the place like historic ambience Buxa Fort is the perfect destination.
After lunch we will do a jeep safari in the jayanti riverbed towards bhutan border where sinchula range can be seen, to reach famous Chhota Mahakal temple (inside a natural cave). To reach you have to trek almost 750mt through forest. The whole river bed of jayanti is filled with several birds and butterflies. Fireflies can be seen in the night.
After returning to the resort camp fire and valedictory session will be arranged in the evening.
Day 6 : Group breaks after breakfast and drop to nearest railhead Alipurduar.

The nearest airport is in Bagdogra near about 12 kilometres Siliguri. The closest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri, on the outskirts of Siliguri, which is connected with almost all major cities of the country From New Jalpaiguri Railway station or Bagdogra Airport, you can hire a car to reach; you can also take shared cars or auto/toto to reach base camp.

Safety & Security : Extensive and painstaking preparations have done into the planning of routes for your safety. Our Field Staffs have been visiting the area to check all in details, every care has been taken to ensure safety. Youth Hostels Association of India West Bengal State Branch Can Not Be Held Responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen casualties. If Participants desire to join and other activities they may do so at their own cost and responsibility and only after finishing the program and checking out.
 
Additional Notes : Smoking and Use of Alcohol and Narcotics or any description are strictly prohibited during the trekking program. Camera Charges and Entry Ticket for some places will be provided by the participants only. Carry your address proof and Photo Id.
 
Cancellation Policy : In case you are unable to join this expedition you will get a refund of 50% Rs.6750/- provided your request is received clearly one month before (excluding day of reporting) from the day of reporting. After this date no refund application will be considered. Any unforeseen event /strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation. Refund will be given after completion of the program 30 to 40 working days.
