Breif Description Of The Program :
WESTERN GHAT is one among World’s 25 biological hotspots, known for its rich biodiversity with several endemic birds, butterflies and animals. It is also a great place of attraction having beautiful landscape with several waterfalls, perennial rivers, and streams within the tropical moist forest.

Ulavi – Ulavivillage is in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district. It is an important pilgrimage center, having the Samadhi of Sri Channabasavanna, one of the most revered saints in Ulavi. The UlaviJathra is well known and attracts large number pilgrims from all over Karnataka. Ulavi which is located at Western Ghats is surrounded by thick forests, known for its wildlife treasure, such as tiger, cheetah, elephant, sarang, cobra, many birds and plant species.

ShivapuraBasavaDhama (Base Camp) – Shivapura is a remote village on the northern banks of the river Kali.Basavadhama is an ashram established by Sri. Channabasavananda Swamiji, about 2 decades ago.

Mahamane Caves – Hidden deep inside the forests of Dandeli, the Mahamane caves is one among many caves in Ulavi, and it is really exciting and adventurous to reach this cave, which houses thousands of Bats hanging inside thebeautiful cave formations.

ShirveGudda – ShirveGudda is a small mountain, much suitable for trekking in the months of November, December and January. Takes about three hours to reach peak, starting from Shirve Village near Devalmakki, Karwar. Mid way on the trekking route is the famous Sri Sidhhrameshwara Temple. Then it will be a walk in the dense forest to reach the peak. From the peak one can view Kali river valley, Kadra Dam and Kaiga town ship, which gives immense joy and it is certainly worthy to trek to ShirveGudda to enjoy the serene natural beauty.

Hanging Bridge on Kali River – Shivapura Hanging Bridge is one of the beautiful tourist attractions in Yellapur taluk. This bridge is built over the back waters of Kali river.

Overall, this trek is planned such a way that, it is not only an easy to moderate exciting treks / walks / adventures everyday but also allows the participants / trekkers to enjoy the beauty of western Ghats which is full of valleys, mountains, rivers and lush green forest.
 
Schedule Of Programme :
Day – 1 : Reporting at Base Camp – ShivapuraBasavaDhama Math (Base Camp), Shivapura (around 9 Kms from Ulavi)
Day – 2 : Trek to ShirveGudda (5 Hrs Trek), near Kaiga Township. Reaching ShirveGudda base by vehicle (around 75 Kms travel) from the Base Camp.
Day – 3 : Visit to AkkaNagamma Cave, VibhoothiKanaja, Aakala Gavi, RudrakshiMantapa, HaralayyanaBugge, etc.
Day – 4 : Trek to Mahamane – 4 + 4 = 8 Kms, visit to Kali River Hanging Bridge and Kumbrala Waterfalls.
Day – 5 : Visit to Ulavi Sri Channabasaveshwara Temple and Syntheri Rocks. Drop to Dandeli and Disperse.

Who Can Participate? : The members of YHAI can participate in this program. The minimum age for joining this expedition is 15 years.
 
How To Reach The Base Camp : Base Camp is situated at ShivapuraBasavaDhama, which is 09 Kms from Ulavi and 46 Kms from Dandeli. The Reporting point is Ulavai. A Team of volunteers will pick the participants at Ulavi and transport them to the Base Camp.

KSRTC Buses will run frequently from Hubli, Dharwad and Karwar to Dandeli.
From Dandeli to Ulavi, the Bus timings are – 16.30, 16:45, 18.00.
From Ulavi to Shivapura Base Camp (9 Kms), arrangements have been made to pick up all the participants through Jeeps.
 
How To Join :
The registration will be on First Come First Serve basis. Participant should be a member of YHAI. Non memberscan not register to the program. Registration will be stopped once the number reaches 105. Members desiring to join this trekking program may apply on the prescribed registration form which is available free of cost from Units/State Branch and also through Website.
 
Accommodation Facilities : Accommodation provided will be in the forest area i.e., ShivapuraBasavaDhama which is an ashram, in remote Shivapuravillage on the northern banks of the River Kali. It is a simple outdoor stay with all good basic facilities to the participants.
 
Food & Water Supplies : Participants get to taste some of unique food items (traditionally lacto-vegetarian) of North Canara, such asJoladaRotti, Ennegaayi, tasty Chatni powders, Payasam, etc. A safe and clean drinking water will be provided on at all time to the participants. Water will also be provided for other daily needs.
 
What Participants Should Bring Along :
Participants must bring the basic gears such as –, Minimum cotton clothing, Shoes with a good grip, slippers, spare socks, Sleeping gears (Carry mat), Shawl or bedspread, Air Pillow, Woolen Sweater, Scarf (Woolen cap), Torch, Personal Medicines, Water Bottle & Toiletries, Towel, etc.
Sun cap will be provided, Steel Lunch Box, Plate, Tumbler and Spoon, Original Aadhar/Voter ID, Masks & Sanitizer, Photography is highly encouraged, Diary to note noteworthy moments
 
Safety & Security : Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into planning of this trek routes considering the participant’s safety. The YHAI and the organizers of Gangothri Unit, Mysuru, will not be held responsible for any accidents, illness and any such unforeseen eventualities. Deviation from the set route of the program is not permitted.As a precautionary measure, life insurance is also provided to all participating trekkers.
 
Additional Notes : We are very happy to say that during 1990s,YHAI Gangothri Unit had conducted YHAI State Level “Cauvery River Valley” trekking program.
During 1997, organized State Level Bandipur Range Trekking program for Senior Trekkers, which was held very successfully.
During 2014, we had organized Western Ghat State Level Trekking Program at Yellapura and Kumta Region of North Canara. The duration of the camp was 4 nights and 5 days. There were 5 batches and in each batch the participant’s strength was 40. A total of200 trekkers had participated.
 
Cancellation Rules :
In case any participants unable to attend the trek even after paying the participation fee, only 50% amount will be refunded, if the request for cancellation is received at least 15 days before the commencement of the program. However, no refund will be made if cancellation date falls short of 15 days.
